Patricia Blackwell, surviving spouse of the Rev. William Blackwell, died March 25. A funeral service was held on March 29, 2021 at Smithville UMC. Lois is survived by her husband the Rev. Dr. Alfred J. Hubler, daughters Barbara Hubler and Sandy Scherrens, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Gene Cheney, surviving spouse of the Rev. Richard G. Cheney, died June 20. A private family graveside service was held at Union Cemetery.

Genevieve High Schools who will attend Southeast Missouri State University. The scholarship is renewed upon application for four years if the recipient maintains a 2.5 cumulative GPA and reapplies each year. James Piatchek is a 1963 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University who majored in marketing. He was named to Oxman of America in 1973 and Who's Who in Professional Executives. He is a past member of the National Alumni Board and the Copper Dome Society, and began alumni charters in Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee.

Harry was a retired employee of DuPont Corporation, Parkersburg, where he received recognition for not missing a single day of work for over 20 years. He was an Army veteran and a member of Mt. Olive Lodge No. 3, A.F.

Alice has been a full-time homemaker except for some brief times of employment outside the home. She has occupied many leadership positions in the Girl Scouts of U.S.A. organization, including as a member of the Board of Directors and Program Chair for the Cherokee Strip Council. Her efforts were recognized when she received the prestigious "Thanks Badge" and later the President's award. She married Jerry Erlbacher in 1956, and they have two sons, Edwin and Joseph. Martha taught Art in the Cape Girardeau School District for 24 years. All four of Gene and Delba’s children were also teachers and graduates of Southeast Missouri State University.

Anderson, Donald (Diz) Student Athlete Endowed Scholarship

January 20, 2021, Donald Ray Gray, 75, of Clay traded his Earthly tractor for a Heavenly crown. As a young child, he developed a strong work ethic, and grew into a hard-working man. Don worked out-of-state at Ford Motor Company for a time, but he missed the WV hills and came home. He worked at MarSans mine and was a foreman at Beth Energy and Harwood Mines. In 1977, Don was blessed to have met his future wife and keeper of his heart. He was welcomed with open arms by his in-laws, Page and Edith Kuntz, sisters-in-law Brenda and Sherrie, and brother-in-law Johnny.

He served as Scott County Sheriff for 24 years before he was elected to the Missouri Senate in 1976. During the eight years he was a senator, he served on various committees including Local Government and Economic Development, Transportation, Agriculture, Conservation, and Parks. Applicants must submit both a resume of extracurricular and service experience and a personal essay of no more than 300 words describing the impact of Delta Delta Delta Sorority on her and her future goals. Dr. G. Keith Deimund is a 1962 graduate of Southeast with a Bachelor of Science degree. The scholarship recipient will be a mass media major attending Southeast Missouri State University who exhibits academic promise, journalistic talent, and a commitment to working in the mass media industry after graduation.

McClune, Lila Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is open to students with 60 or more credit hours completed when the scholarship is awarded and who are enrolled in a course of study leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Performing Arts degree. Applicants must have an overall 2.5 GPA and a 3.0 GPA in all completed Performing Arts major courses. The recipient must tutor middle school, junior high, or high school students in performing arts in Cape Girardeau County.

Funeral services were held July 30 at House of Eberhardt Funeral Home in New Franklin, OH. Rev. W. Maurice King served Aldersgate, Epworth Euclid, and Canton James S. Thomas United Methodist Churches in addition to serving as Canton District Superintendent. He retired from the East Ohio Conference in 1997 and died in 2009. Rev. Browning is survived by wife Betty; children Kevin Browning, Felicia Browning, Michael Browning, Todd Browning, and Douglas Browning; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rev. Glenn A. Brunstetter served Irondale/Hammondsville, Pennsylvania Avenue, Grace Uhrichsville, Shreve, Scio, and Smith’s Corners United Methodist churches in the East Ohio Conference.

Ueleke, Margaret Ritter Scholarship

Students must have high academic achievement and show potential leadership in the profession. First preference will be given to a student who resides or has resided in Ste. Second preference will be given to a student who resides in any of the Missouri counties in the primary University service region. Last preference will be given to a student who resides in Missouri outside of the primary University service region. Two letters of recommendation, one from an employer and one from a University faculty member or former high school teacher, are required to be submitted.

Jane Cooper Stacy, former Director of Alumni Development, traveled to Malaysia in 1989 to constitute the first official international chapter. She later worked with Malaysian students in partially funding this scholarship. He most recently served as the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology. The scholarship continues to be funded through the fall Sport Management 5K Fund Run and the spring SEMO Golf Classic events planned and hosted by students in the Sporting Event Management course. Preference to be given to a Sigma Phi Epsilon member who is majoring in Education.

Russell, Lucile Farrar Memorial Scholarship

The rich and varied life afforded this family through their educational roots has been passed on to their children who have had their own rewarding careers in science, education and medicine. Mary Wilkison, the wife of “Dub”, graduated from Southeast in 1964 with a B.S. This was followed by a 25 plus year career as a 4th and 5th-grade elementary teacher in Sikeston. After her retirement, Mary was visited and recognized by many of her former students who remembered her as a significant mentor who helped launch them toward a wide variety of successful careers. This scholarship is a memorial to honor Professor O. L. Wilcox, longtime head of the music department at Southeast Missouri State University. As the study of music enriches lives, so this award promotes opportunities for students to succeed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Young; and brother, Walter Perry Larch. In 2003, he began dating former Playboy Cyber Girl Coco Johnsen. In November 2004, at the end of their 17-month relationship, Johnsen sued Maher for US$9 million for "pain and suffering" for alleged "insulting, humiliating and degrading racial comments".

She is also a former beauty queen who is passionate about dance, music, philanthropy and volunteer work, especially helping the elderly, handicapped, abused and homeless. She enthusiastically supports Southeast Missouri State University and was instrumental in her daughter’s success while she was a student here. With a specialty in European history, Dr. Breeze taught Western Civilization courses at Southeast and a variety of upper-level and graduate courses dealing with modern Britain and 20th Century Europe. Dr. Breeze served as the Advisor to Phi Alpha Theta for many years and was a member of the University’s Graduate Council during the formative years of the graduate program. During college he also took a semester to study political science, working in Jefferson City in the Missouri House of Representatives for 6 months. Richard taught mathematics at Ritenour Senior High School in St. Louis County from 1966 until 1969, when he was drafted into the United States Army.

To keep current on content, every year he spent considerable time in Kent Library reading every published opinion of the U.S. The recipient of this award is eligible automatically for a continuing award if the scholarship criteria are met. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student in good standing in the BSN Program of the Nursing Department at Southeast Missouri State University. Kathleen Wolz is a 1979 graduate of Southeast with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, majoring in English and Mass Communications. She subsequently graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale School of Law in 1985 and is a partner in a Cape Girardeau law firm. While at Southeast, she was a member of The Capaha Arrow staff and was editor-in-chief of the 1979 Sagamore yearbook. She also served as president of Delta Delta Delta, secretary of the Student Government Association and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. In addition, she has served as Towers North Head Resident, Greek Housing Coordinator and is a past member of Southeast’s National Alumni Council.
