The recipient of this scholarship will be an undergraduate, non-traditional student with a 2.75 GPA. This Memorial Scholarship is in honor of John Charles Fox Jr. A native of Versailles, Missouri, John graduated Magnum Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Mathematics. He was also one of a handful of seniors in the University's Honors Program and aspired to earn post-graduate degrees in the discipline. Sherry and Gary have two daughters, Melanie and Kara, who graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

First preference for this scholarship will be given to a graduate of Neelyville High School majoring in English or Spanish. Second preference will be given to a graduate of Neelyville High School. If no student meets the above criteria, then this scholarship is open to students majoring in English or Spanish. First preference for this scholarship will be a military veteran of any U.S. branch of armed forces.

The recipient of this scholarship will be an international student enrolled at Southeast with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with first preference for a student who demonstrates exceptional campus and/or community involvement. The recipient of this scholarship must be enrolled in Southeast Missouri State University’s Nursing program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Second preference will be given to a non-traditional student. Third preference will be given to any student majoring in Nursing.

Funeral services were held November 5, in the Denzer Chapel of Snyder Funeral Home in Marion. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William B. Thomas. She is survived by children Christine Laner, DeAnn Thomas, and Duane Thomas; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She returned home to Gilmer County and spent the majority of her career at Calhoun General Hospital where she worked in surgery, the emergency room and in utilization review. Reverend Cooper became the driving force behind the erection of the building which would become the Baptist Student Center. This award continues to drive higher education for students interested in ministerial service. This scholarship was established by the Three Rivers Citizens Advisory Board which is an arm of the Probation and Parole Board in Poplar Bluff. This arm is made up of volunteers and is a non-profit organization whose objective is to raise money for law enforcement purposes in this area. This scholarship is meant to assist promising students in the criminal justice program so that their education might benefit all persons of Southeast Missouri.

She attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where she met fellow student George Alois Sudholt. Because of the war and family concerns, she left school before completing her degree. Fourteen years later, Martha resumed work on her degree and began her public teaching career at Bryan School in Monroe County, Missouri. Bryan School was a one-room rural schoolhouse where she taught all eight grades for two years. Martha graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1961 from Southeast Missouri State University. In 1970, she earned her Master's of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
