The scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in journalism with a minimum 2.8 grade point average. The award can be used for fees or to provide financial assistance to travel abroad. Originally from Arkansas, David M. Barton moved to Catron, Missouri in the early 1930s and farmed in New Madrid County until his death in 1987. His contributions to the agricultural history of southeast Missouri include 35 years on the board of supervisors of the Little River Drainage District, during which he served as board president from 1962 to 1987. Since her husband's death, June Barton has served as owner and manager of David M. Barton Farms and continued farming the land she loves. First preference shall go to a student enrolled in the Harrison College of Business.
He was hired by the Department of Corrections of Illinois as a Correctional Officer and later as a Counselor. He retired from the Vienna Correctional Institution in 2012. After serving as District Superintendent of the Cape Girardeau-Farmington district of the United Methodist Church since 1984, Dr. Kenneth Johnston retired from the ministry. The commitment of Joy and Dr. Johnston to education has been a lifetime's accomplishment. As thanks for their excellent service to the area, an endowed scholarship fund has been established in their names. First preference will be given to the grandchildren of Earl and Margie Holland.
Kinder, Luke F. and Edna C. Memorial Scholarship
He chose it as a career, first teaching agriculture in high school in Mattoon, Illinois as well as sponsoring the school's Future Farmers of America program. Eventually, in 1964, Wayne launched his teaching career as a college professor at Southeast Missouri State University, where he taught economics for 33 years. During his tenure, he at one time served as the Department Head for Social Sciences.
Rev. Weaver served Sandyville/Asbury and Crestline United Methodist churches before retiring from the East Ohio Conference in 1986. Rev. James Wiebrecht served Rocky River, Mogadore, Ashland Emmanuel, Wintersville, and McDonaldsville St. Paul United Methodist churches before retiring from the East Ohio Conference in 1998. Rev. Dr. Donald C. Bable served Freeport, Jewett, New Rumley, Salem, Sebring, and Howland United Methodist Churches.
Cliff, Ray and Melissa Scholarship
The recipient of this scholarship will be an undergraduate, non-traditional student with a 2.75 GPA. This Memorial Scholarship is in honor of John Charles Fox Jr. A native of Versailles, Missouri, John graduated Magnum Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Mathematics. He was also one of a handful of seniors in the University's Honors Program and aspired to earn post-graduate degrees in the discipline. Sherry and Gary have two daughters, Melanie and Kara, who graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
First preference for this scholarship will be given to a graduate of Neelyville High School majoring in English or Spanish. Second preference will be given to a graduate of Neelyville High School. If no student meets the above criteria, then this scholarship is open to students majoring in English or Spanish. First preference for this scholarship will be a military veteran of any U.S. branch of armed forces.

The recipient of this scholarship will be an international student enrolled at Southeast with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with first preference for a student who demonstrates exceptional campus and/or community involvement. The recipient of this scholarship must be enrolled in Southeast Missouri State University’s Nursing program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Second preference will be given to a non-traditional student. Third preference will be given to any student majoring in Nursing.
The scholarship is automatically renewed for four years if the recipient maintains a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Along with the required application, the scholarship selection committee will interview the top candidates before making the award. The Marketing Department Chairperson, Director of the International Business Programs, and one appointed faculty member of the Harrison College of Business and Computing will serve as the scholarship selection committee.
Baldwin, Dr. Tamara Mass Media Scholarship
A community memorial service was held at Pisgah UMC on June 4. Clara Jackson, spouse of the Rev. John Jackson, died September 30. A memorial service was held November 12 at Harlem Road UMC in Galena, OH. Private family interment took place at Fancher Cemetery in Westerville, OH. This scholarship shall be awarded to a student enrolled in the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center who has financial need as indicated by the FAFSA. If awarded for continuing semesters, appropriate progress must be shown in classes taken.
Funeral services were held November 5, in the Denzer Chapel of Snyder Funeral Home in Marion. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William B. Thomas. She is survived by children Christine Laner, DeAnn Thomas, and Duane Thomas; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She returned home to Gilmer County and spent the majority of her career at Calhoun General Hospital where she worked in surgery, the emergency room and in utilization review. Approximately eight months ago, Mavis told members of her family that she would love to go into a surgical suite and see the instruments that are now used. At 87-years-old, she said she wanted to be able to compare what instruments were use when she assisted in surgeries to the ones used today.
This scholarship is named in honor of Reverend A. B. Cooper who was instrumental in establishing a place in Cape Girardeau where college students could receive Bible teaching and Christian guidance. Reverend Cooper became the driving force behind the erection of the building which would become the Baptist Student Center. This award continues to drive higher education for students interested in ministerial service. This scholarship was established by the Three Rivers Citizens Advisory Board which is an arm of the Probation and Parole Board in Poplar Bluff. This arm is made up of volunteers and is a non-profit organization whose objective is to raise money for law enforcement purposes in this area. This scholarship is meant to assist promising students in the criminal justice program so that their education might benefit all persons of Southeast Missouri.
She attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where she met fellow student George Alois Sudholt. Because of the war and family concerns, she left school before completing her degree. Fourteen years later, Martha resumed work on her degree and began her public teaching career at Bryan School in Monroe County, Missouri. Bryan School was a one-room rural schoolhouse where she taught all eight grades for two years. Martha graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1961 from Southeast Missouri State University. In 1970, she earned her Master's of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
